Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Likewise collects, why, and the choices you have. We only collect what we need to match you with compatible flatmates and to run the service.

Who we are

Likewise ("we", "us") is an independent service based in London, United Kingdom. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact privacy@likewise.app. For data-protection purposes, we are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist

• Your email address.
• Optionally, how you heard about us or the area you are looking in.

When you use the app

• Account: email, and a password held only as a secure hash (we never store it in readable form).
• Profile: your name, date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or over), gender, the area and postcode district you are searching in, occupation, and photos you choose to upload.
• Living preferences: budget, move-in timing, and lifestyle answers such as sleep, cleanliness, guests, noise, smoking, pets, diet, working from home, languages, and optional faith preferences.
• Activity: who you like or pass, your matches, and the messages you send to matches.
• Approximate location: we convert the postcode district you enter into approximate map coordinates using the public postcodes.io service. We do not track your live GPS location.
• Technical: basic device and usage information needed to keep the service secure and working.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

• To provide the service (create your profile, match you, let you message): performance of our contract with you.
• To keep people safe (block, report, and moderation): our legitimate interest in a safe community.
• Waitlist and product updates by email: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Legal and security obligations: where we are required to act.

What other people can see

Likewise is a social product, so parts of your profile (your first name, age, area, photos, and living preferences) are shown to other members you may match with. Your exact address, email, and password are never shown to other members. Your messages are visible only to you and the person you matched with.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help us run Likewise, under contract and only as needed, including our hosting and database provider (Cloudflare) and the postcodes.io lookup used to place your area on the map. We may disclose data if required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and personal data within a reasonable period, except anything we must retain for legal or safety reasons. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or we launch in your area.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to certain uses, or withdraw consent. Email privacy@likewise.app and we will respond within the timeframes the law requires. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

Likewise is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product develops. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
